How to: Stop that noisy chain

Having your bike in a smooth and quiet gear is always important. To achieve this, it is best to have your bike in a gear that keeps the chain as straight as possible. Therefore, if your are using the smallest (hardest) gears on the rear cluster, it is best to change to a larger (harder) chainring and a larger (easier) gear on the cluster to achieve a straighter chain line without affecting your pedalling effort. This will help to avoid the chain rubbing on the cage of the front derailleur which is often the cause of drivetrain noise.
