Saturday 15^th of January saw the opening of one of Australia's most iconic trails “Stonefly”. Goldcross was lucky enough to get an invite to the launch which involved riding the trail, VIP party and movie night.

The trail was designed and built by World Trail’s Glen Jacob’s Australia's number one trail designers. The Mt Buller CEO and his team have a vision to make Mt Buller a premier destination for mountain biking in Australia and with this trail they have succeeded. The vision has taken shape with stage one of the project being completed. This includes a beginner trail around village, 3 cross country loops to Howqua gap and now Stonefly.

The 10km trail Stone fly starts at the top of Howqua gap and traverses the ridge across the ridge to the iconic Mt Stirling. It features many creek crossings and waterfalls along its route. The trail travels deep through the wilderness and passes untouched forest. Stonefly is suited to intermediate riders and has a 3 km flowy down hill at the end.

It is now possible to ride from the top of Mt Buller across to the top of Mt Stirling and ride single track nearly the whole way. Mt Buller is now one of Victoria’s premier mountain bike destinations.
